Finally managed to get up Mount Brunswick, the highest mountain on the North Shore. A fairly easy 6-8hr day with a fun grade-3 scramble at the top to make it to the summit. Starting in the quiet little village of Lions Bay, the trail follows an old FSR towards the infamous Lions before a separate (and very overgrown) trail soon diverges north east and begins to zig-zag up the mountain with views of the Howe Sound.
After about 2 hours of hiking up the winding trail through the trees and bushes covering the west facing slopes you emerge out into an opening and begin scrambling up to the ridge that will take you to the summit, which still remains out of site.
Once up the first bit of the scramble you arrive at a flat shoulder on the ridge the ascends to the summit. From here you get your first views of what’s on the other side of the ridge and can see all the way to Black Tusk and the snow-capped peaks of the Garibaldi Provincial Park. You can also appreciate sheer size and scale of the north face as it drops all the way down into Deeks Lake, an awesome camping spot.
Once at the summit, it provides incredible 360 panorama of the entire north shore.
