Mount Cheam, Chilliwack

Woke up and hit the road early on our way to attempt to get up Mount Cheam.

En route to Mount Cheam, Chilliwack, nice and early. Not another car around.

Off-season conditions in the Mount Cheam valley

Off-season conditions clearly visible in the valley below Mount Cheam… but sunny up top. Weird.

Soon became apparent that off-season means we’re going to be encountering snow and ice. Lots of it. The long road up to the parking lot was pretty brutal and certainly only possible with a good 4×4 that has some decent ground clearance. Had to park the car 3km short of the actual trailhead and hike in, but it was good to get up into the Alpine and finally catch a view of Mount Cheam.

Frozen trails

Trails on the way to the summit of Mount Cheam were completely frozen over.
